Using the overhead projector

The overhead is a cheap, powerful tool. You can buy one for just over a hundred pounds. Teachers find it invaluable for teaching IPM maths - and for many other things too. The overhead is essential for IPM from Year 2 onwards.

The teachers' manuals for Y2 contain ready-made transparencies, which can be used year after year. They add interest to the lessons and encourage pupils to explain their mathematics to the class.

From Year 3, manuals contain a paper copy of each transparency. A pack of ready-made transparencies is available separately.

Use the overhead to project images of structured apparatus, such as Unifix or Dienes'.

Update versions of the lessons make use of the Easiteach program, which works well with data projectors and wireless graphics tablets or interactive whiteboards.
