Arranging the classroom for interaction

In Year 1, a lot of the direct teaching takes place on the carpet. From Year 2, we recommend the horseshoe much as shown in the illustration below.



This gives children the best sight lines to each other and to the teacher. Lines of communication, including non-verbal communication are optimised.

Behaviour and concentration improve and the quality of interaction is enhanced. The central horseshoe is sometimes used for children who need extra help and support.
