We recommend that desks should be arranged in a horseshoe (or ‘U’) shape. This supports the cohesion of the class and the quality of discussion and interaction. Paired work is also easy to organize and monitor. Conversely, old-fashioned table-groups are inward-looking and often militate against whole-class collaboration.
